BRCA Round 1 – Kidderminster – Preview

On the Easter weekend, April 16th & 17th 2022, the Kidderminster Model Car Club will host round 1 of the British Radio Car Association’s 1/10th Offroad National Championships. The prestigious series which has attracted maximum entries for many years will visit six venues across England between April and September.

Kidderminster has been included in the series many times and under the stewardship of Tony Meredith and his team you can be sure the venue will be presented in peak condition later this week.

“It’s great to see our National series retuning after a 2 year break and what better place for round 1 then the prestigiously prepped Kiddeminster Model Car Club”

– Martin Owen, BRCA Section Chairman

The track

The Kidderminster track is known for its technicality and variable surfaces as it meanders in close proximity to laurel hedges. If the weather has been cool or wet on the leadup to an event, the hedges can keep some parts of the track in shade and moisture takes a long time to dry off. Carry too much speed at any apex and you’re in trouble! Concrete curbing and paved sections add the sensory attack on competitors.

The track surface is undulating, but there is no “big-air” section apart from a central table top. Instead, the primary challenge is to deal with the varying surfaces and keep the car on the ground.

2022 BRCA 1/10th Offroad National Championships

Round 1 – Kidderminster – 16/17 April 2020

Who’s going?

The event is full in both 2wd & 4wd classes – testiment to the quality of the organisation over the last decade or so. Generally speaking, 1/10th Offroad is undergoing a slow recovery across Europe after damage done by the pandemic when there was no events to participate in, so it is fantastic to see National racing in the UK at full health.

Entries for Round 1 at Kidderminster include many of the familiar names we are used to seeing at the top of the field. 2019 Double National Champion Neil Cragg, Lee Martin, Jamie & Tommy Hall, Ben Smith, Luke & Josh Holdsworth, Elliott Boots and Paul Crompton are all entered just to name a few. New and returning additions to the field whom we have not seen before or seen for a while are EOS front runner and 1/12th scale European Champion Michal Orlowski from Poland and A-Final regaular Kev Lee. A notible driver with no entry in for this year is Tom Yardy.
