BRCA R4 Stotfold – Preview

After three spectacular rounds of the 2022 BRCA 1/10th Offroad National series under our belt so far as well as a superb Euros where one of our own was crowned 2wd European Champion, its now time to knuckle down for the second half of the season, culminating with the BRCA 50th Birthday celebrations at RHR. Tommy Hall won’t be resting on his laurels after his Euros win and will surely be one to watch for the remainder of the championship.

A Brief History…

For round 4 we move to the Stotfold Model Car Club nestled into the Bedfordshire country side just north of Stevenage. The club has been there since 1983 running 1/8th and 1/10th Rallycross till a new track for modern 1/10th offroad was laid in 1997. The club was promoted to the National Series in 2007 after a couple of years running a BRCA end of season meeting.

The all artifical grass circuit is undulating with hills and banks and will present a very different challenge to the three tracks used so far. Keith Wardle and his team will present the track to the usual high standard ready for battle to commence on Saturday morning.

2022 BRCA 1/10th Offroad National Championships

Round 4 – Stotfold – 16/17 July 2022

2wd Championship so far….

Neil Cragg has had an incredible run over the first three rounds to consolidate a huge lead at the top of the table having two wins and a second. On the points table Neil’s closest rival is Tommy Hall some 14 points adrift, but considering a dropped score his closest rival is actually Michal Orlowski with a win and a second – only 2 points adrift – having missed the round in Southport. Perhaps with a Euros win under his belt Tommy will close in on the lead two and make a bid for the title – only time will tell.

After three rounds on 4wd…..

Things are not so fragmented in 4wd. In addition to Neil Cragg, Paul Cromton (first time winner at Boughton) amd Tommy Hall in the break-away pack, Michal Orlowski and Lee Martin are also in that mix considering a dropped score. Ben Smith can also be stitched onto that group when a score is dropped.

Its shaping up to be a very exciting class and Stotfold could be a pivotal point where a favourite for the title may emerge.

Its been suggested that the biggest challenge this weekend will be the weather. As Europe is gripped by a heat wave, the fringes of the high pressure front will pass over the UK on Saturday and Sunday. Its definitely one to bring your factor 50 to. Those who don’t mind themselves in the heat will suffer.
