BRCA Round 3 – Boughton – Preview

The BRCA 1/10th National Series is proving that it has not been a victim of the pandemic by providing us with two spectacular events so far at Kidderminster and Southport. Both venues provided us with bumpy technical circuits quite unlike anything else in the championship.

For round 3 of the Nationals we move on to Boughton in the Norfolk countryside over the weekend of June 11th and 12th. The track is very different to its predecessors and will allow for faster and more confident racing which, I’m sure, will be equally as spectacular.

The Track…

Built in 2010, Boughton Raceway was designed and built to provide the east of England with a permanent, purpose built venue with a layout which is fast and flowing to promote wheel to wheel racing. The track is 100% artificial grass with various features which have been significantly upgraded for 2022. The drivers stand is large enough to easily accommodate up to 15 participants.

The series last visited Boughton Raceway in 2019

When the series last visited Boughton Raceway in 2019 it was Neil Cragg who dominated taking 2wd and 4wd over the weekend – only beaten in Leg 2 of the 2wd A Final by Paul Crompton. It will be interesting to see if Neil’s previous dominance is repeated this time considering an improved Crompton, Lee Martin, Michal Orlowski, Hall & Holdsworth bros., Ben Smith, Ben Pugh et al. will all be present. And sadly, as was broadly announced last month across social media, neither Ellis Stafford or Danny McGee – A Finalists in 2019 – will be present this time. Both drivers announcing their retirement from National Championship racing after Round 2 in Southport – they will be missed.

Round 3 – Boughton – 11th/12th June 2022

Series recap…

Going into round 3, Neil Cragg has a perfect 2wd score after two TQ & wins (262 points) from two. His closest challenger in the tables is Paul Crompton a stagering 9 points adrift – Paul will be hoping that his round one score (124) will be a disgard at the end of the year if a title challenge is to remain a possibility. Michal Orlowski and Lee Martin don’t feature in the tables as they have both only one score – 129 and 128 respectively. And third in the championship table is Ben Pugh – proving his consistency with 125 and 127 points gathered so far.

The Hall & Holdsworth brothers and Ben Smith all close behind Pugh in the points ready to challenge for third in the table with a good points haul at Boughton. Ben Jemison the best of the rest some 25 points behind Cragg in ninth in the 2wd tables.

The 4wd Championship is shaping up to be very close indeed. Tommy Hall and Neil Cragg have a TQ & win and a third place each – drawing at the top of the tables on 259 points. Michal Orlowski and Lee Martin taking the second podium position in Kidderminster and Southport respectively, but both also not present for one round each. This weekend will be the first time Michal and Lee will go head to head in the series this year. Paul Crompton is third in the tables with a consistent fourth at both rounds to far – five points behind the leaders.
